ROCK STEADY BOXING LA LAUNCHES TO HELP KNOCKOUT PARKINSON’S
The boxing program that has helped thousands of people across the country regain strength, mobility and hope.
LOS ANGELES, March 27th, 2018 — Rock Steady Boxing (RSB), a unique exercise program that adapts pro boxing techniques for people with Parkinson’s disease, has just launched in Los Angeles with classes starting March 20th. The program, which has already helped thousands of people with Parkinson’s regain strength, mobility and quality of life involves non-contact boxing, stretching, jump-roping, balancing and agility exercises led by expert, certified coaches.
After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in February 2007, Russell Faucett, started the RSB program in June 2015. “I was amazed by the immediate improvement in my debilitating symptoms,” says Russ. “99% of my tremors were gone, my gait was more fluid and relaxed, rigidity has disappeared from my arms and face, and my over physical condition improved considerably.”
When the original program ended in 2016, Russ reached out to his former coaches, Lauren von Bernuth and Sarah Lahalih, and asked if they’d be interested in co-founding their own program with him. Both women, who had heard from several of their students how an improved physical state has instilled new hope for them, immediately jumped on the opportunity. Lauren – an avid boxer and coach who has used boxing as a tool in her own personal healing, and Sarah – a 4-time Chicago Golden Gloves Champion and fitness expert, bring years of experience and passion to the program.
“We are fortunate to be able to bring Rock Steady Boxing to all the LA residents confronting Parkinson’s,” said Sarah and Lauren. “This program is so near and dear to our hearts and we feel privileged to be able to give back with a sport that helped shape our own lives and empower so many people.”
It is estimated that 1-1.5 million Americans have Parkinson’s disease, with as many as 60 thousand new cases being diagnosed each year. The Rock Steady Boxing program provides an opportunity not just to substantially improve physical condition, but also renewed hope and sense of community for Parkinson’s suffers who’ve been so deeply affected by the disease.
Today, there are 540 Rock Steady Boxing affiliates around the world, initiated by certified Rock Steady Boxing coaches, all of whom have been officially certified at the headquarters and training center in Indianapolis.
